The Overview

Ambience and Reflection Patterns

Precision Reflection Engine focuses on the cues that make a source feel situated in a space. Its Shape and Size controls establish a pattern of reflections, while Predelay determines when that pattern starts and Recirculation extends or intensifies it.

The 19 shapes include room-like geometries alongside springs, plates, gates, and abstract patterns. It can therefore serve as a small-room ambience processor or as a deliberately artificial effect rather than only a realistic room simulator.

Positioning a Source

Start with Shape and Size, keeping Recirculation modest for a tighter room impression. Use Predelay to separate the reflections from the initial sound, then darken them with Low Pass if needed. Stereo output controls position the processed components without requiring the dry source to move.

Predelay and Size share a finite timing budget: pushing one toward its maximum can reduce the other. For parallel use, enable Wet Solo on an effects return. On an insert, use Mix to keep the direct signal prominent.

The Controls

Space and Timing

  • Shape: Chooses one of 19 reflection patterns, including Cube, Box, Corridor, spring/plate variants, gates, and more abstract spaces.
  • Size: Changes reflection spacing across a 1-99 meter range.
  • Predelay: Sets the gap before reflections, from 0 to 300 ms.
  • Sync: Expresses Predelay in host-tempo note values rather than milliseconds.

Size and Predelay interact near their upper limits. If increasing one causes the other to decrease, the processor has reached its combined delay-time limit.

Reflection Character

Recirculation feeds processed reflections back into the engine. Lower amounts suit restrained ambience; higher amounts extend the effect. Negative values invert the recirculated signal's polarity.

Low Pass applies 6 dB/octave high-frequency damping to the processed signal. Turn it lower for a darker reflection pattern, or use Off to remove that filtering.

Stereo or Mono Output

Pan A/B place the processed outputs in stereo. Pan Link couples their controls to simplify widening or narrowing.

With mono output, these become Gain A/B, setting each processed line's contribution. Those gain controls cannot be linked.

Blend and Bypass

Mix blends dry and processed sound. Positive values retain wet polarity; negative values invert it. Its taper gives extra resolution for small ambience amounts.

Wet Solo overrides Mix with processed-only output, which is appropriate for a channel-send effects return.

Level adjusts output from -25 to +15 dB. Power, also available through the UA logo, bypasses the complete processor for comparison.
