Helix Native
Builds guitar, bass, and creative effects chains from Helix amp, cabinet, impulse-response, and effects blocks inside a DAW. Flexible routing, snapshots, and controller assignments support both recorded-DI re-amping and automated sound design.

The Overview
Helix Native is a modular processing environment rather than a single amp simulation. Its Signal Flow window represents the actual order of processing, with selectable models edited in the lower inspector. An Amp+Cab block is a quick starting point, while separate amp, cabinet, dual-cab, and IR blocks permit more deliberate routing and speaker choices.
Hardware Compatibility modes constrain the environment to particular Helix or HX devices for preset exchange. Off mode removes the modeled hardware DSP limits, but does not remove the computer's real processing limits or make every elaborate preset transferable back to hardware. Snapshots provide variations within one preset, recalling bypass states and assigned parameter values without replacing the underlying models.
For recording, monitor a DI through the plug-in while retaining the dry performance, then refine gain structure and cabinet placement during mixing. Build mono gain stages before stereo ambience when appropriate: inserting a mono block later will collapse the preceding stereo signal. The linked guide describes version 3.80, so model availability and compatibility should be read in that version's context.

The Controls
Levels and the Signal Flow window
- Master Input / Output sliders and meters set the level entering and leaving the instance. They are not stored per preset. Avoid red clipping indications and correct excessive boosts inside the chain rather than relying solely on final attenuation.
- Input blocks expose their noise gate and routing options. A downstream path fed from another path can use None as its separate host input to avoid also receiving the original DAW signal.
- Output blocks offer Pan and Level. In Helix/Off modes, Path 1 can feed the host or an available Path 2 input.
- Processing blocks can be added, bypassed, copied, cleared, and dragged into a new order. Dragging a block below a main path creates a parallel route with Split and Merge blocks. Mono blocks sum the channels at their position; stereo processing upstream does not survive that summing unchanged.
Model editing
Edit selects the model and exposes its parameter sliders. Scroll to reach controls below the visible panel, double-click values for numerical entry, and use the block's bypass control for comparisons. Parameters differ by model; there is no universal amp-control range.
For amps that provide them, Master controls power-stage distortion; Sag changes tightness versus supply-like compression; Hum / Ripple alter modeled electrical artifacts; Bias changes tube bias; and Bias X changes the response when driven. These interact with Drive and Master rather than behaving like post-amp EQ.
Cab / Amp+Cab editing provides Mic, Position, Distance, Angle, Low Cut, High Cut, and Level. Current Cab models have a graphical mic editor; Legacy Cabs differ. Dual Cab adds independent panning and delay. Link Dual Cabs makes the secondary model follow the primary selection when enabled.
Routing and libraries
- Split Y adjusts the stereo balance sent into each branch. Split A/B changes their relative feed. Split Crossover divides by frequency, and Split Dynamic divides according to level. Merge controls how the branches recombine.
- Presets manages complete tones. Favorites stores reusable block configurations. IRs holds the shared library used by Single and Dual IR blocks; maintain the required IR assets when moving presets between systems.
- Hardware Compatibility selects Helix, HX Effects, HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL, or Off behavior. Amp/cab models are not available in HX Effects mode. Imported hardware Send, Return, FX Loop, and Looper blocks are not functional hardware connections inside Native.
Tempo and performance control
- Tempo follows Host Sync, Per Preset, or Per Snapshot. Note Sync on supported delay/modulation parameters changes them from time/rate values to musical divisions.
- Snapshots recall bypass states, assigned parameters, and optionally tempo. All snapshots share the same block models: use separate blocks and bypass changes if different amps are needed.
- Automation/Controller Assign maps a selected Target Parameter to automation Knobs/Switches, snapshots, or MIDI CC. Its assignment list and available range controls define the mapping, not the sound model itself.
- A/B Compare, Undo / Redo, and the Tuner support editing and setup without rebuilding the chain.
